Screening: Sky Ladder: The Art of Cai Guo-qiang

 

SPACE STUDIO held an open screening of Cai Guo-Qiang’s film "Sky Ladder: The Art of Cai Guo-Qiang". Directed by Kevin Macdonald, the 2016 documentary explores the life and work of Chinese multi-disciplinary artist Cai-Guo-Qiang, and his ambitious efforts to create spectacular artwork with gunpowder.

Bookaroo - Festival of Children's Literature

 

Bookaroo, India’s first Children’s Literature festival, premiered its Baroda edition at SPACE STUDIO over a weekend in November 2019. Around 250 children between the ages of 4 and 14 participated in creative activities such as craft and doodling, and attended interactive storytelling sessions led by 25 children’s book authors, illustrators and storytellers.

Open Studio: Art & Ecology

 

The Open Studio showcased work developed during the Art and Ecology Residency from July-November 2019. Residents were encouraged to explore the relationship between art and the natural world through print-making, and worked with artists and naturalists alike to discuss how art can help in conservation.

Hardeep Pandhal is a UK-based visual artist who works with digital animation, rap music, wall drawings and textiles. Pandhal presented his varied body of work to an audience at SPACE STUDIO, discussing themes of racism while also delving into the nature of associative thinking and interdisciplinary practices.

Exhibition: Every Year the Flood Comes by Sudipta Das

 

Held in collaboration with Gallery Latitude 28, New Delhi, SPACE STUDIO hosted the preview of Baroda-based artist, Sudipta Das’ exhibition – ‘Every Year the Flood Comes,’ which interrogated the artist’s concerns about climate change and human migration, and specifically focused on the issue of identity in her native, Assam.

Event: Tejas School Event

 

As an extension of N.S. Harsha’s workshop, participating students of Tejas Vidyalaya visited SPACE STUDIO to enjoy a weekend of art and architecture. The event included an exhibition of the t-shirts that were created during the workshop, as well as fun breakout sessions for the 300 participants, their parents and teachers.

Exhibition: Distilled Blueprints

The inaugural exhibition of SPACE STUDIO, 'Distilled Blueprints’, took place in a former distillery, inviting 11 artists to explore how space can relate to time, history and memory. Over 400 people attended the event, which was curated by Veeranganakumari Solanki and included a talk by artist Atul Dodiya and a music performance by artists Tritha Sinha and Martin Dubois.

Workshop: 'Future' Workshop by N.S. Harsha

Contemporary artist N.S. Harsha is interested in how knowledge is absorbed and developed, specifically by children. He conducted a workshop facilitated by SPACE STUDIO for the Alembic Group of Schools, in which 200 children were encouraged to imagine the kind of grown-up they want to be. Harsha then helped them illustrate and write these dreams on adult-size business shirts, which were displayed during the opening exhibition at SPACE STUDIO.
